Because of You aims to raise $80 million towards the large scale transformation of Stevenson Memorial Hospital located in Alliston, Ontario. This article shares some of the capital campaign background and hospital’s history. It also describes how 52 Pick-up revitalized this campaign to enable fundraising at scale.

Because of You

Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation, the group fundraising for the hospital, created theBecause of You campaign to help offset the total hospital redevelopment costs of $405 million. $80 million represents the local share of construction costs plus equipment for the new and improved Stevenson Memorial Hospital.

A brief history of Stevenson

Almost a century ago, Theodore Pringle Loblaw, of grocery store fame, founded the hospital tohonour his grandparents, William and Elizabeth Stevenson. Mr. Loblaw pledged $100,000, inspiring other citizens and business owners to join the cause. Together, they celebrated the opening of Stevenson Memorial Hospital on June 30, 1928.

Stevenson Memorial Hospital today

Stevenson Memorial is the hospital for tens of thousands of people. The place where friends and families get care close to home. Where the emergency doctor knows your name. Where neighbours work. Where the nurse who helped deliver your firstborn also comforted him as a 10-year-old with a broken arm.

Stevenson’s ER room, designed for 7,000 annual visits received 35,000 in 2023-24. And their 38-bed inpatient unit accounted for 13,410 care days – a 97 percent occupancy rate.

Communities served with love

Stevenson Memorial Hospital already serves more than 75,000 residents across the southern portion of Simcoe County, including New Tecumseth, Adjala-Tosorontio, Essa, Innisfil, and Canadian Forces Base Borden. Their reach extends even beyond our hospital borders with many patients choosing to access care at Stevenson from the neighbouring communities of Caledon, Mulmur, and Clearview.

South Simcoe and New Tecumseth are flourishing municipalities with fast-growing populations. Alliston’s population alone is expected to double by 2051.

Demand has outpaced our capability

With continued population growth forecasted throughout the area, Stevenson Memorial Hospital must expand and evolve to keep pace. The area needs a new, larger community hospital that delivers faster, more precise and personalized care. This care includes seamless, rapid access to expanded diagnostics and treatment locally.

The bold new solution

Stevenson’s dramatic transformation transforms a single building into a modern healthcare campus. At 146,200-square feet, the new three-storey wrap-around addition triples the size of thehospital. The new design greatly reduces the use of hallway medicine while enabling new and expanded care services.

Because of You raises funds for…

  • Tripling the size and vastly expanding the capabilities of our ER department
  • A new Diagnostic Imaging Suite with a new MRI unit and a new CT scanner
  • The introduction of new major operating rooms to complete more surgeries
  • 42 bright and spacious private rooms plus a rehab area and palliative care
  • A vastly expanded obstetrics and birthing unit with an operating room capacity
  • Relocating and elevating the helipad to improve efficient and onsite safety
  • Equipment and furniture, from stretchers and scopes to surgical instruments
  • Reduced wait times thanks to an expanded footprint, care zones, and capabilities
  • Capacity to do hip and knee replacements and a reactivation room
  • Increased access to specialist referrals through partnerships and better IT
  • Improved healthcare provider recruitment through better facilities and amenities
  • Strengthening our economy through more new jobs and more businesses

52 Pick-up Partnership

Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation selected 52 Pick-up to help revitalize and evolve the campaign. The agency responded with a beautiful new campaign identity—Because of You—that has wowed hospital stakeholders and set the stage for major fundraising efforts. With a new digital destination in the works, the path ahead looks bright.

“It will be game changing. Expanded care services locally in a modern hospital with direct access to every specialty we could ask for. It’s like bringing the capacity of a major urban hospital right here to the region of South Simcoe.”

– Dr. Roger Musa, Chief of Staff
